One of the big claims of Twitter has always been that it was an excellent place to find out about breaking news. Meanwhile one of the difference about Madison is its lack of a main character and slower speed. Which makes me curious to know how you found out about the #TrumpIndictment. Did you:

@McNeely Serendipity led me to stream @msnbc . Hesitated cos House so nasty earlier.

I like Joy Reid. I saw #AndrewWeissman and turned back to my computer tasks.

THEN I did a double take. Did I read the chyron right? Donald Trump Indicted.

ALSO, I am new to Mastodon. Today, I checked in earlier pre-indictment. Not clear how to navigate here.

Twitter sadly has thinned out.

I've been looking for accounts here. Quite sparse for my interests outside politics.

@punkpioneerjennylens @msnbc welcome to the Fediverse 👋 some of the best advice I've seen is to follow liberally since that's the only thing that populates your feed.

Also check out hashtags, they work a lot better than on Twitter. After using them once you should be able to follow them and they can also populate your feed. Try #TwitterMigration for starters, that one has lots of helpful guides and new folks coming over

@McNeely THANK you for the tips. The issue is, as I keep saying, my interests are not here. I doubt if they ever will be.

I don't the early punk music fans who love the musicians I photographed. I don't see the artists I love. Nor books. Tarot.

Cultural touchstones I love are MIA. Means I need to spend more time working on my punk photos and making art.

THIS IS TOO MUCH WORK + TIME. Many early punks fans and creatives want/need to connect more easily. A sign for me to retreat ...

@McNeely thank you for your kind words. A highly techie pal of mine encouraged me to join here. He told me it takes time to build communities.

So maybe more creatives (artists, musical + old movie fans, etc) and early punk fans will come here. Eventually.

If they understand how to sign up + do stuff.

So many just won't bother or too hard. Sadly.
