@royal It’s a white dwarf. No more fusion is occurring- basically, it’s a dead star. The only shining it’s doing now is afterglow from heat and light it generated when it was still fusing elements.
@royal It will gradually dim over quadrillions of years until it becomes a black dwarf. What happens next depends on whether protons are permanently stable or not- it is presumed they last at least 10^36 years. I’ve looked into whether or not it could pull enough mass off Sirius A to cause a type 1A supernova- seems the stars are too far apart for that.
