For the past 6 hours, there’s been 2,000+ Mastodon account creations per hour.
This hasn’t happened since December 2022.
@mmasnick predicted that Elon Musk’s new Twitter Blue policies would result in another Mastodon migration, and it looks like he’s right.
Once Twitter effectively becomes “pay to play”, Mastodon suddenly becomes more appealing.

No wonder. At this rate, you will have to pay just to fend off cryptobros, elmo-bootlickers, fascists, putintrolls, and other right-wing propagandists.
Twitter used to be interesting because it offered an alternative to FB back in the days, which allowed it to create a multi-varied fauna of various groups talking about all sorts of topics while a moderation team checked for proper conduct.
Nowadays that's all gone because some billionaire baby wanted to have a sandbox to dig holes and act like the boss of the sandbox.
The platform was virtually dead the second Elmo got involved in how things are run. /shrug

They seem to be ramping up a closed circle of elites who only support each other. It's uncomfortably like the economy.
