We won! Turnitin is notifying schools that they can opt out of the AI Writing Detection tool. Congratulations to everyone that worked on this, and helped spread the word! I knew we could do it together.

Please note that this is an opt out process, and it's unclear if it will be available after the tool launches next week on April 4th. Reach out to your school's Turnitin administrators and be sure to be heard! This tool is hazardous to students and should be avoided.

@Linkletter since GPT’s grammar and sentence structure is pretty good, are we going to see students deliberately (but possibly without realizing it) making their writing worse in its mechanics in order to reduce risk of falsely being flagged as AI?
@mdekstrand I wonder if students are going to write more like ChatGPT as they read lots of its writing. But you're right, intentional grammar errors, typos, or characters that look like letters have been shown to evade previous tools like GPTZero. They say they're working on it.
