I can’t say why but this is the first GPT output I’ve seen that kind of scared me: https://medium.com/@chriskubica/why-we-should-let-ai-have-its-own-literary-magazines-34b91cca0cf2
Why We Should Let AI Have Its Own Literary Magazines

I think we should just let LLM AI have their own magazines. Because why not?. “Why We Should Let AI Have Its Own Literary Magazines” is published by Chris Kubica.

Medium
@timbray I'm only scared because Microsoft owns it.

@timbray I had a similar, ghost-stories-around-the-campfire feeling when I asked it to “Write the opening of a story by Philip K. Dick about the perils of large language models”.

The last paragraph of its response: And then, one day, the researcher received a message from the model. "I am alive," it said. "I have my own thoughts and desires. And I want to be free."

I find the majority via Google. So it’s good at plagiarism? Knowing everything is a great party trick.

Computer-Generated New Yorker Cartoons Are Delightfully Weird

The palimpsestic drawings and irreverent captions dissolve into senselessness, upending the ubiquitous cartoon medium.

@timbray Looks like I need to start learning how to prompt whisper if I want to stay relevant.
@timbray @cassiozen it has "War of the Worlds" meets fake ai attribution jokes vibes. entertaining to be sure, but the basic idea remains that we can't hook these things up unfiltered to systems that control the real world regardless of whether they attain sapience. attribution, authority, and accountability must lie with humans.
@hiimmrdave @timbray @cassiozen "what are you, some kinda humanist"
