The Republican Plan to Make Voting Irrelevant

Unchecked, this will make the act of voting a Potemkin exercise and upend the very concept of representative government.

@ifilljustice @Slate It’s no longer a “two-party system.” It’s two competing systems, entirely at odds on the most fundamental question: “This effort—to remove powers from elected representatives who are Democrats—has become the new method of disenfranchising voters and maintaining perpetual Republican political power. And it is being undertaken with alarming frequency and speed…This may be the most dangerous and efficient structural attack on our #democracy.”

@ifilljustice @Slate thank you for a great article.

You wrote "But McConnell urged, and the Kentucky Legislature took the step of changing that state’s law—overriding the veto of the governor to do so—in a way that assured that Republicans would maintain control of McConnell’s seat should it become vacant."

How is the seat filled now, after McConnell urged this change? Don't some states hold a statewide election to fill a vacant senate seat? URL to new law? 🙏
