Never use “tireless” to praise people teaching, nursing, volunteering, doing activist work, etc. I assure you, these people are plenty tired.
@Julie I always thought “she was tireless in her efforts” was a compliment, or at least a favorable description. Never thought it might be perceived as an insult. Gosh I’m sorry…?
@adriennelacava @Julie It is gaslighting. It makes it unacceptable to complain about the working conditions.
@HLGEM @Julie Excuse me but calling it gaslighting is a reach, and certainly demands context.
@adriennelacava @Julie It is gaslighting because it is suggesting that it is a positive thing to be tireless and that people in these professions should be proud to be overworked and underpaid.
@HLGEM @Julie okie doke. But I would never suggest such a thing, even if I *mistakenly* praised their commitment and devotion as tireless. TBH, this feels like one of those far left things gopers hang the woke hat on. js.. ☮️
@adriennelacava @Julie To start with woke is a compliment. I am proud to be called woke. Just because you personally don't see the problem does not make it not gaslighting. Perhaps you need to become more woke, to see how other people are being exploited and harmed by your language even when you didn't intend to do so. Words can cause harm. In this case it is a societal issue where the overall theme that you buy into when you call them tireless is to support the idea that they should be expected to work harder than other people. It causes harm. Perhaps you have never been in one of those professions, but I have taught and I come from a family with many teachers. These supposedly positive words are harmful especially when people are close to collapse and are made to feel guilty with praise for their tirelessness.
@HLGEM @Julie I’m plenty woke and am certainly less judgmental than you can manage. Why did you come here to fight? Do you think sneering criticism is effective in trying to inform? There is nothing you can teach me, or most thinking people, with judgemental stubbornness, but good luck with that. Bye.
