These publishers include natural history museums like the Smithsonian museum and also citizen science sites like iNaturalist. GBIF provides essential monitoring capacity to inform biodiversity conservation. Over time, iNaturalist has become an increasingly significant contributor to GBIF. In fact, since 2020, most GBIF records for most species have come from iNaturalist. Only about 8% of the GBIF records since 2020 are from iNaturalist, so how can this be true?
