Mildly annoyed by the line breaks just then, a poor solution struck me: modify the hashtag parsing regexp in Mastodon and other ActivityPub handlers to match but skip soft-hyphens. Heaps of fun with non-capturing groups, but. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_hyphen
A slightly less dumb version would be @ivory inserting soft hyphens in hashtags between lowercase letters and subsequent uppercase letters. Display purposes only, behind the same option as any other automatic hyphenation, which is something I’ve been planning to muck around with for a while now.
