Media literacy reminder to myself:

Just because Mastodon is still relatively small and has a relatively high barrier to entry and its community moderation works pretty well doesn't mean there isn't still a lot of stuff on here that has to be taken with a grain of salt.

As in any town square, there are issues where there is NORA (no one right answer) and where productive inquiry / debate is required. (As ever.)

@mimsical I absolutely agree with you on this.
@mimsical Absolutely correct! The nice thing about discussion here on Mastodon in my experience is that it mostly starts from a place of mutual respect for diversity and diverse opinion. Most opinions don't get the automatic beatdown that follows on  and can be real discussion. But as with all things, start with respect and you get respect. It does take more work here to find interesting follows. No algorithm but looking at who people you follow follow themselves helps.
@mimsical Couldn't agree with you more. So much with life and the associated discourse should be placed in the file "Agree to disagree" . If more people simply accepted each others differences without needing to change the view of others, life would be simpler. I expect it is a consequence of democracy (which we all cherish) and also social media that turns everyone into campaigners causing disagreements to spin out of control.
