"Woke" is now every third word out of Republican faces. But when pressed on what "woke" means, they stammer and dodge.

This isn't by accident. "Woke" is an empty word that means whatever a Republican needs it to mean. In this article, I dig into why. https://www.salon.com/2023/03/16/why-the-is-obsessed-with-woke--but-cant-define-it/

Bethany Mandel can't define "woke" because it is an empty word that means whatever MAGA wants it to mean

Quintessential cultural appropriation from the #Fascism playbook.

@AmandaMarcotte I wish journalists would call out this “woke” bs and force people to define it by reenforcing its actual meaning. “So, you’re trying to implement policies that are pro-bigotry/pro-injustice?” “Can you explain how, if you’re against diversity, equity and inclusion, you’re not openly supporting white supremacy?” “What is it about anti-racism that you find so offensive?”

@AmandaMarcotte And it’s almost funny how they’re now trying to claim diversity caused the latest bank collapse when every other bank collapse in our history involved banks run almost exclusively by white men.

I know, I know…facts mean nothing to Republicans.

This reminds me of the early 90s when the Christian Coalition ran stealth workshops to get religious conservatives into local offices, like school boards (largely successful.)

One of their directives to the candidates was to never be explicit on your religious views, never quote scripture, because then, you will have to discuss, defend or explain your views, which are of course, anti-Christian.

The point was to hide the actual objective, to turn government into a theocracy. That work continues.

(Of course, Marco Rubio has ignored that advice, to general derision.)
