@elmerot however the conference is organised, visibly trans and queer attendees would be risking harassment or violence on the streets

Under the present circumstances, organising a conference in Poland (or in Florida, or in Qatar, for that matter) is essentially telling LGBTQ+ scholars that they aren't welcome

(On a different note, can we avoid the ableist language? Andrzej Duda is not mentally ill, he's an evil piece of shit, which is not the same thing at all)

@alischinsky @elmerot

Hi Alon, I'm organising CADAAD in Poznan. Truly sorry this is how you feel about it being held in Poznan. On the level of government rhetoric and policy, Poland is obviously not in a great situation! BUT the image of poland outside is very different from the reality here, especially in larger cities.

@alischinsky @elmerot @CharlotteTaylor

Poznan is open and has a thriving LGBTQ+ community, our Pride festival now goes on for a week, our university and in particular my faculty has a very active LGBTQ+ community, we have gender-neutral toilets at the faculty.

I would be very happy to chat here or elsewhere with anyone who is scared of coming to Poznan for fear about this
