He was happy as I was sitting from a distance in the car but these birds are known to recognise familiar faces and just ‘know things’.

This is the variety found throughout California. We had scads of visitors when my housing development was first built from farmland - they have since moved on to more open land. Fascinating, funny, intelligent birds!
