#ComputerUpgrade
I'm replacing my twelve year old Windows PC with a much faster new one that I'm building. I hoped to transfer my operating system by just moving my C drive to the machine, but the BIOS won't recognize it as a boot drive because it's formatted as an MBR, which is incompatible with the new BIOS. My plan is to purchase a new ssd and install a clean copy of Windows. Does anyone know how I can save my applications without having to install them individually? Any help is greatly appreciated.
@mydogwrotethis if your new computer only accepts gpt, there are tools to convert mbr to gpt without data loss. I did it before, but I do not recall what I used. Perhaps easeus.
@mydogwrotethis Starting over will be better for you. The cruft that old assed applications bring isn't worth it. Depending on the Windows and Application versions the data may be in one directory tree where you could copy the data off to the new drive.

I looked into this a few months ago for a similar project which I never needed to finally implement; but there is a free software tool that will move your old HDD installation to a new SSD (even if they are different sizes). I can't remember what it's called but I found it by googling (or whatever) for something like "move windows to new SSD"
