I'm really proud of my parents for growing this 'meadow' where once there was the most sad patch lawn. I explained the benefits of not mowing your lawn to my dad last year, and he really got into it. In the 2 years they have been in their house they have transformed the most boring patch of lawn into this meadow, lots of fruit trees, and multiple veggie beds.

@HeatherInNZ This beautiful and so much what I would like!

@HeatherInNZ

That's so relaxing to just gaze at, thank you (and them)!

@HeatherInNZ here’s another one for your dad -
@peterbrown @HeatherInNZ Please can I put in a word in favour of wasps too. They are just as important but bees have a better PR department!πŸ˜‰

Oh, good for dad, it looks marvellous and I bet it's a constantly changing delight that a lawn could never match
@HeatherInNZ I did the same in a rental a few years ago. My neighbourhood of neat as a pin houses with Australian flags on poles in the front yard wanted to report me to the police they were so disturbed.
@TomWilliams You are brave to do that with a rental! Our last place was a rental and I hated how the landlord would show up with no warning on a weekend and spend over an hour mowing the lawn. Now that we own our place, it feels like a great luxury to let our grass grow tall. I doubt the neighbours appreciate it but so far they haven't complained. I like to think I'm setting a good example for the neighbourhood πŸ˜‚
