Remember, we're ACCURATELY EMULATING CASSETTE SPEEDS, folks. That means you could spend up to 10 minutes letting these little guys load in. Some of the C64 games had stuff like mini-games, graphics and more while you waited, so get ready to waste some time in the most exquisite ways.

@textfiles Or, you can press F12, Speed Settings and select WARP MODE

Still trying to work out how to get basic joystick input working so I can play Thomas the Tank Engine :)

@DragonDave

I figured this much out:

Machine settings > Joystick settings > Joystick device 2 > "Change to keypad 1"

and

Machine settings > Joystick settings > Define keysets > Whatever you want

Some games (like Ghostbusters) seem to have control schemes that don't map to these controls though. It's just a matter of pressing everything and seeing what works.

Thank you @textfiles, these are amazing! I'd never played C64 games before. Seeing the data encoded as video is wonderful.

@ikesau @textfiles

Why is it device 2?

You're absolutely right, that's perfect, thank you.

Thomas the Tank Engine cleared, the Fat Controller is pleased with me, all is at peace on the island of Sodor.
