One of the things #2OO1 got wrong was it’s depiction of the Moon with sharp, craggy edges. The consensus was that the moon wouldn’t be weathered because it lacks air and water. We didn’t understand what billions of years of micrometeorites & particle radiation can do. #TCMParty
@rdbacon I remember hearing on a tour at Johnson Space Center that originally they weren’t sure if the moon was completely solid or made of a fluffy material that would cause the astronauts to sink into it. #TCMParty#2001ASpaceOdyssey
@analgesicsleep@rdbacon Clarke used the theory that the moon has deep seas of dust in his 1961 book A Fall of Moondust. I recommend for those who like action/rescue stories like The Martian or The Poseidon Adventure.
