As Mobian has gotten more popular, a more common question is if we support a particular phone. While it would be nice if manufacturers upstreamed their changes to make this task easy, the situation is (unfortunately) much more complicated than that.

We took some time to discuss what it takes to port Mobian (and Mobile Linux) to new devices:

Thanks @postmarketOS for the help making the post!

Porting Mobian to New Devices // Mobian's Blog

It'd be great if Free/libre software focused on supporting hardware from Free/libre countries and not from dictatorships that wish to eradicate freedom.

The OSS community has to realize freedom is more than just the ability to tinker. Dictatorships can order their subjects to do the latter.

@mobian @postmarketOS this will always be the problem, no standard bootloaders. Limited time, can't support all phones... so android wins.

There is no winning that game, we need to focus on free hardware linux first phones.

@elias @postmarketOS Due to economy of scales this game is hard to win too. Linux-first phones are just a small niche and therefore more expensive (relative to their performance).
