So... last night I pointed out that @filipeesposito, the editor for 9to5Mac made some pretty embarrassing factual errors in an article about Bluesky... and rather than fix those factual errors... he (1) blocked me on mastodon and (2) left the story as is.

In the past I had always considered 9to5Mac and its related publications to be credible sources of news, but now I feel the need to re-evaluate that.

Reporters make mistakes. We all do. It's how you *respond* that matters.

@mmasnick Have you considered that accusing him of "making stuff up" rather than making an error makes you look like an ass, and right or not less likely to be listened to? Especially when you provided no evidence you were right?
@Doephin If he didn't make it up, why did he make claims that are completely false? It wasn't just an error or a mistake. He made claims that have no basis in reality, specifically that Dorsey "revived" Bluesky after leaving Twitter, when Bluesky's progress has been well documented online (including with details of the actual team, which is not Dorsey).
@mmasnick Because he was relying on information that happened to be wrong? That was a short history summary that may have been sourced from another article.
@Doephin but he wasn't relying on anything. that's the point. he doesn't point to a source which made those claims, and I don't believe there is one, because it's false. So, it seemed reasonable to suggest he made it up.
