Just in case you wonder where the new Settings app in MacOS 13 gets its unreliability and flakiness, Settings is janky on iOS too. What’s the deal with this app?

@gruber The problem is that UI on the left. Nuke it and put a search field at the top.

(But this will never happen: too many important Apple brands in the left column (like News, TV, et. al.). And even if things are alphabetical, there’s no way “Amazon" goes before “App" or “Apple”.)

@gruber @chockenberry I thought about this for a while as a mental design exercise and I came up with... sorting the sidebar by icon color.

I think Apple's designers having been creating this visual language for icons and maybe we should build off that.

I was going to make a mock-up, but I stopped pursuing this further when I realized the ideal color for the Bluetooth icon would be green. Which might make heads explode.
