personally i blame the botched restoration of that jesus painting for the invention of stable diffusion. all they wanted to make was an algorithm that can denoise images from memory, so that no decayed jesus painting would ever be defaced again by a well meaning restorator, but then they found it could even denoise uniform random noise

that's the story i choose to believe in

the idea of a twisted enchanted mirror that can manifest images from nothing makes for a great horror story scenario... a window into hell
@lritter imagine it going further. Imagine its able to make stable 3d scenes in realtime and now becomes a realtime metaverse generator where someone can control the generated alternate reality. Maybe a dystopian sci-fi where it's used as an interrogation technique. Or an entertainment device where you're in an alternate reality with godlike creation powers
@Aron i'm a software engineer so i have trouble imagining this right now. the power cost for both training and inference would be, at this point, astronomical; unless it's well segmented and we find a way to compress the data.
@lritter yeah it's not some kind of near future thing. Far distant future
@Aron not worth thinking about, i'll be dead then.
