Today I stopped playing Wordle cold turkey. I had made a daily habit of it and now I'm repurposing that time for organizing work. Today I followed up with several people and got a meeting on the calendar.
I’m trying to make this a daily habit and I did find a way to keep my streak going today. I’m working on a website for one of my favorite things in Troy, Flagsss Day (not to be confused with Flag Day)

Today’s organizing: I wrote a shop note updating union membership about how our contract bargaining is going and started onboarding a new member.
I was on vacation today but I did manage to send an email saying I would follow up with someone next week. Writing this just reminded me there is one other message like that I need to send to someone else.
Today I read about the rollback of LGBTQ legal protections in Alaska and I’m sitting with this question from a friend’s IG stories.

Alaska Says It’s Now Legal “in Some Instances” to Discriminate Against LGBTQ Individuals

On the advice of the state’s attorney general, Alaska’s civil rights agency quietly deleted language promising equal protections for LGBTQ Alaskans against most categories of discrimination, and it began refusing to investigate complaints.

Here’s a legislation tracker, for a bigger picture of what’s going on in conservative state legislatures. 51 bills by my count. https://www.them.us/story/anti-lgbtq-legislation-bills-tracker-us
Everything That Happened in Anti-Trans Legislation This Week: Feb 25-March 3

Tennessee signed the nation's first drag ban into law and became the latest state to put a ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth.

Today I scheduled the weekly chicken care tasks with a group of 4 neighborhood friends who take turns tending to our flock of 12 hens. I have some software that helps coordinate and send reminders via SMS reminders:

Today was the first day back after a long weekend trip and I had plenty of organizing work to catch up on, mostly union-related.
Today I had a meeting with Troy Coalition for Black Lives, affiliated with https://troy4blacklives.com/
Troy 4 Black Lives

We demand accountability for the Troy Police

Felt pretty tired out today and almost let my streak end. But then I remembered I had a meeting agenda I can start drafting.
Today I had some short 1:1 follow-ups, did some outreach for a friend's event, accidentally missed an event I had been looking forward to, and took the lead on childcare so my wife could attend a meeting.
Today I sent an email reminder for a dad support circle I help organize, and sent another email to someone involved in organizing the event I missed yesterday.
Just made it home from the dad circle, gonna smell like a fire pit for a few days. Grateful to have and give support.
Today I sent one hard email and started composing another. I also took a long walk and delivered some packets of seeds through a mail slot, related to this project: https://nextepochseedlibrary.com/lawn/
Lawn (Re)Disturbance Laboratory – A collaboration with seeds, time, and weeds

Today I went to a community meeting and made a small speech about the need for more affordable housing. And also that concerns over parking and high density are misguided. I may have called out my city council rep a little bit.
I also just signed up for the Parking Reform Network mailing list. I would like to be more persuasive on this topic.

Today I sent out calendar invites for a union meeting and drafted an agenda.
Today I facilitated a union meeting.
Today I spread the word about a local canvass related to lead in municipal drinking water and attended an onboarding for the union local executive committee.
Today I wrote an email that offered possible dates for a future event, recapped a past event, and shared an upcoming canvass event. Also checked in with a couple union members under a hard deadline.
Today I attended a bystander intervention training organized by Troy DSA in collaboration with a group from Binghamton called Progressive Leaders of Tomorrow.
Today I had aspirations for some ambitious writing, but only managed to schedule the next week of chicken care tasks.
Today I wrote up a proposal and offered it up for a union vote and, separately, wrote an email to management in my capacity as unit chair. I also met with some comrades working on local progressive causes and discussed long term organizing infrastructure.
Today I renewed our paid zoom account for the union (after yesterday’s vote came back positive), sent a dad circle email for April, and attended an Executive Committee meeting for the union local.
Today I drafted a letter to the city planning commissioner in support of an affordable & supportive housing development in downtown Troy and solicited feedback from some folks.
Today I met with HR to discuss a union matter and attended a coalition meeting.
Today was a union contract bargaining day, our 44th session, 690 days after we started in 2021. 5 proposals with us, 4 with them, 22 tentative agreements.
@dphiffer Sounds like a lot of chickens?
@judell just a dozen hens, the scheduling challenge is from divvying up tasks among 5 humans who each have days when they’re unavailable. I’ve posted more about it on the bird site: https://twitter.com/dphiffer/status/1561376380910288896

@dphiffer I miss keeping chickens. They turned to be far more entertaining than I had ever imagined.
@judell yeah it’s surprising how much personality they have. Lately they’ve been escaping their enclosure and getting into mischief.

@dphiffer

Dan, these updates are awesome. I just read back through your thread and what a great diary! I love this commitment to taking daily actions. It embeds organizing into your every day life and that's how transformation happens.

@emi thank you, yes that is exactly my intent. And it seems to be working as intended!
@dphiffer say what now?
