@[email protected] The last one hurts me the most in my career. I dont get assigned tasks I know I can do, I get assigned ones I know I will have trouble with that do involve speaking/social interaction, and when a couple pluralsight courses on "how to speak effectively" dont change me, I get bad performance reviews. I also spend so much time explaining I need direct feedback, and I talk bluntly because that is all I can do.
@[email protected] I have been in my career almost 20 years, I am great at what I do, but managers rarely use my strengths and insist on all this "networking" which I am just bad at, I cant comminicate with people like that. As a result, there are people with half my experience getting promoted way ahead of me and getting the bettee opportunities
@[email protected] Of course they are happy to use my "gifts" when it suits them. A severe system error nobody else can figure out that needs someone with a brain capable of pouring through massive amounts of data logs and finding patterns, they get me, saves the company money and bad PR with customers. Come review time "well you need to work on your communication, technical ability is only a small part of this evaluation, so no promotion and a below average COL increase, maybe next year"
@[email protected] sorry for the rant, its been a bad week and your post hit on a lot of my frustrations
