Let's do #JoinMastodonDay on 9th of March!

  • Before: spread the word! Get to know Mastodon, choose a server, export contacts from 'other platforms', ...
  • On the 9th: Mastodon users write & boost tutorials and tips, share #Introduction posts, advertise servers, send invite links, ... and the Newcomers Come!
  • After: keep helping newcomers and sharing intro posts.

What say you? πŸ˜ƒβ€‹ Please boost if you're in!

My dear @kordinglab, would you help us spread the word about #JoinMastodonDay on here? And possibly on Twitter as well if you would link there to this post? ‴️ πŸ™β€‹

@elduvelle @kordinglab
It would also be the occasion to either organize a Mastodon "drive" (e.g. a drive to get people already on Mastodon to *only* post on Mastodon for, say, a week) or to seriously inquire into the reasons and try to brainstorm around why even accounts with a large Mastodon follower base still do the majority of their posting on Twitter. Or a drive *and* a brainstorm!

Cos the only thing I personally miss about Twitter... are the things that don't get posted + discussed here!

@WorldImagining @kordinglab I agree... I think the main factor is just habit, and also all the little details that twitter does to keep you hooked which do not happen on Mastodon... so it requires a conscious, deliberate effort to make the switch and they need a very good reason to do that.
@elduvelle @kordinglab If one doesn't succeed in creating a virtuous circle, a vicious one sets in :) The more I have to go to Twitter just to stay up to date on what's happening, the more likely I am to just start using Twitter again myself, and so on and so on. If we can speak in terms of social media FOMO, I feel like it has swung back in the "wrong" direction; there doesn't seem to be much FOMO regarding not using Mastodon. How about something like weekly neuromatch.social AMAs?
@WorldImagining @kordinglab I don’t know what an AMA is but I think I agree with you??
