Mike Masnick ✅Today on Techdirt I wrote about two newly proposed state laws, one from the Texas GOP and one from the Florida GOP, both of which are blatantly, laughably unconstitutional attacks on free speech and the first amendment in pursuit of culture war nonsense. But never let the GOP claim that they support the 1st Amendment when they constantly pull shit like this.
The Magic Lemur (Eat The Rich)@mmasnick I think what concerns me is that it doesn't matter if they're unconstitutional; they're banking on the Supreme Court DECLARING them constitutional; I believe De Santis was even saying he's "confident this Court will back him" or something to that effect? They've effectively rigged the system enough to pull shit like this and have a fighting chance of getting away with it. THAT scares me.
Frank Bennett 🇯🇵@TheMagicLemur @mmasnick If that happened with these laws, it would be a go-flag for civil disobedience with a base of public support. I don't think the federal system would be sustainable with laws like these on the books. The aspiring oligarchs funding the show want everyone hating one another, but not that much.
