Does anyone know of a good #Linux information web site, where the building blocks of kernel version selection, update cadence, free/non-free inclusion, window manager, default desktop, package managers, and anything else relevant is discussed, as well as maybe the top 5-10 distributions and which of those choices they made?

It seems like knowledge that Linux fans kind of absorb, but I haven't been able to find it easily. Instead, you kind of have to dig into Linux forums to get the details!

Certainly a useful #Linux resource - #LinuxGuide gives you a lot of the fundamentals. Still a bit light on understanding the building blocks that each distribution either includes or defaults to, perhaps because for many Linux users, they'll mix and match to their own tastes.

Another good #Linux resource!

> This document compiles 2018 coverage around post-modern packaging technologies for Linux, including packaging formats like Snaps and Flatpaks, systems like Nix and Guix and full distros such as Atomic or Clear Linux.

#PackageManagers #LinuxGuide

Still not exactly a thorough exploration of distributions, but helpful in learning the pieces you might need to know.

@retorch not sure but Linux Journal (formerly a print magazine) might be a resource: https://www.linuxjournal.com/

@sfraser Heh I will explore more, but I found this article to be emblematic of the problem. It's almost entirely unintelligible, and it only says what Distributions to avoid without naming any they recommend 🤣

@retorch and also Linux Format magazine, sort of consumery but often has interesting articles - this link is to Apple News+ so not sure if it will work: https://apple.news/IatZeKYIBQ6-YYMqviqEBug
