lost all my data for #VampireSurvivors iOS when I deleted it. I even said to myself, “no way you’ll enjoy the grind another time”. nope. still fun. working towards character and stage unlocks for the third time and this game still hasn’t lost its charm.
also: don’t know when the fix went live that prevents chests from spawning out of bounds but thank Poncle that happened! such a relief that they migrate back inbounds after killing a boss you accidentally pushed past a wall.
@bunnieSlaughter that game is an odd phenomenon! haven't played it myself but apparently it has something strangely addictive
@bazkie it’s one of my favs but it’s very hard to explain the appeal. I would highly suggest trying the mobile version if you can. free to play with no micro transactions. just “watch an ad” to respawn. the dev is interesting too. one guy who, when he saw what the port company wanted to do with his game, decided to learn to port instead and release it for free.
@bazkie it’s weird to love a game where the only mechanic is movement. like no shoot, no jump, no other interaction. you just move the character and pick upgrades. but it’s uber satisfying (to me).
@bunnieSlaughter that's great, the dev sounds like a boss :D
I'm not using a phone so I can't play it, but as a gamedev I've watched gameplay videos to see what the fuss is about. But it's hard too see, I think it can only be felt. Can you describe what makes it so satisfying? Watching so many enemies die, and see you get many points for it, maybe?

@bazkie for me at least it’s a combo of the scale (think dynasty warriors), the simple avoidance mechanic and the depth of the weapons/items. it’s not apparent at first but there are passive and active items and if you level up the active item to its max it will evolve.

there’s more depth than you can see at first glance.

it ticks so many boxes for me and especially because you don’t usually play any level longer than a half hour. and often much less than that.

@bazkie I love a game that you discover more of the mechanics and gameplay the longer you play it. and there is just so much to do and it can feel guided if you check the unlocks tab which acts kind of like an achievement guide (but also unlocks stuff in the game).
@bunnieSlaughter thanks for explaining! I understand better now :) I also see it is becoming a genre with clones popping up everywhere. (maybe I will try to program something similar for a gamejam sometime.. it sounds like a game type that is fun to make as a programmer)

@bazkie I could definitely see that! wish I had even an ounce of programming knowledge so I could help lol.

enemy AI can be wildly simple (chase player and run into them until they take enough damage to die), so you can focus on weapon action, synergistic items and lore.
