A whole lot of things I needed to say/swear about concerning ChatGPT, other AI art, and what it means for the future of us.

Come share my March madness:

The Great Replacement (Not That One, the Real One)

ChatGPT is here to burn our crops, curdle our milk, seduce our lovers and corrupt our youth. That's it, that's the subtitle.

Welcome to Garbagetown
@catvalente
Thank you for being so breathtakingly human. This is wonderful.
@catvalente Thank you for witty and cathartic humanity Wordroomba was never going to synthesize.
@catvalente This was a cathartic read, and just what my elder millennial fuzzy gremlin art-heart needed. Thank you!
@catvalente to any Tommy Techbro out there giggling in glee that he can prompt a chatbot to "write a novel in the style of Cat Valente": if you don't do the work yourself, no one will ever be able to prompt an AI to "write a novel in the style of Tommy Techbro". That kind of immortality is reserved for the people that didn't ask a computer to phone it in for them.

@catvalente

"This is a cycle in which machines can participate, but until they have their own trauma and angst they need to express, we are gonna do it dumber, we are gonna do it sloppier, and we are gonna do it weirder. And we’re gonna do it wrong! We do art wrong all the time!"

Yesssssss

@catvalente Beautiful piece! Thank you! Yeah. We're both simultaneously totally fucked and persistant as fuck. Chaos reigns. Also: I NEED a taco yacht.
@catvalente I loved that text. Thank you.
@catvalente I wish I could remember where I saw this, but I recently saw chatgpt described as “mansplaining as a service”
@catvalente I needed this today. Thank you.

@catvalente

Creatives now are publicly fighting against tools like ChatGPT. Its gonna be the kids in school now, the next gen, that are going to find a way to co-exist for their self interests.

I'm interested in seeing what this looks like in 5-7 years.

Also randomly, what a bummer that Google and Microsoft are using these tools ultimately for selling ads with their search (or I'd imagine will eventually). Money ([in]directly) is always the motivation.
