A short little piece I did set in my Space Opera.

TERRANS (IN THE 25TH CENTURY)

Terrans, colloquially known as Earthlings, are the citizens, nationals and individuals associated with the planet of Earth, and by extension the Sol system to which it belongs. This connection may be residential, legal, historical or ethno-cultural. For most Terrans, several (or all) of these connections exist and are collectively the source of their being Terran. Terran law does not provide for a racial or ethnic component of nationality, instead relying on citizenship as a legal status.

Since the mid 22nd century, Earth has pursued an official policy of multiculturalism and has the galaxy's third-largest immigrant population, with immigrants accounting for 35 percent of the population as of 2423.

(Pictures have descriptive captions for extra context)

In the latter half of the 21st century, a vast majority of immigrants came from the Grey homeworld, Zarmash. Significant immigration from Jhi’ingari, Proxima Centauri and Gliese systems began during the earlier half of the 22nd century. Immigration from all over the local galactic sector increased steadily, with an explosion of population in the 2150s, following the construction of several major starship yards in the Sol system. In the decades immediately following the Terran-Izingani War of the 2350s, Earth received a large wave of immigration from across former Izingani territories, with many more immigrants arriving from the Jumashka and Sreqarax systems than in previous centuries. Since the late 2370s, following the Terran-Dzizi peace treaty in 2373, a large wave of immigration to Terra from Dzizi settled worlds has continued into the 25th century, with the Dzizi Federation now being the largest source of immigrants. Humans, the original inhabitants of Earth, still maintain a demographic majority.

The development of a distinctive Terran identity and character began in the mid 21st century and culminated in the international federation of nation states in 2072. The primary languages for Terrans are still Human languages, of which there are over 5000. Earth is home to a great diversity of cultures, a result of both its human history and the history of galactic immigration. Terran culture has primarily been a Human culture, as Humans had inhabited Earth for up to 300,000 years before first contact with other races. However as the Galactic Terran population continues to expand and flourish as a result of changes in the demographic makeup of immigrants and as there has been increased economic and cultural intercourse with other cultures in the galaxy, Earth has observed the gradual emergence of a blended society within its major urban hubs, with Human material and popular culture blending with immigrant cultures. Other major influences on Terran culture include the various Uplifted and Synthetic/AI societies that have developed and evolved around Earth since the mid 21st century. The cultural divergence and evolution that has occurred over the centuries has resulted in a distinctive Terran culture.
