That immediately made me wonder why all the other designs have hab rings with an axis along the main ship axis...

On the other hand if you had a pair of these at right angles, a small variation in spin speeds could be used to gently orient the whole thing for a burn.
Better than thrusters with limited fuel?

People who know more about this stuff than I do get distinctly nervous about the stress on the bearings, even with a simple spinning configuration.
