The sad thing is that was almost exactly the response to the Scottish government's request to stay in the single market, made just after the result of the Brexit vote, and long before the UK articulating any kind of negotiating position for leaving.

Only, if anything, "Fuck you, that's why" is more of an explanation than we actually got.

@petealexharris @alanferrier to be honest, I think that’s pretty close to being a reason for declaring independence.  Notable incidentally, how there is no suggestion that Ireland would somehow not be allowed to continue or re-enter the EU.
