Madagascar local news today: five kids in a local high school (Alakamisy Itenina) went on trial because they refused to sing the national anthem, they stated religion - jehovah’s witness- forbid them to do so lol. The case reportedly even went to the State council and it was decided that they should be reinstated in their respectful classes.

The high school staff and director refused and were fined.
Chistians and Nationalists (which make most of the population for no real concrete reason whatsoever) are mad on social media that the trial (meaning the State) went in favor of jehovah witness and not the “sovereignty of the nation” lmao.

The nice thing was that all the high school students apparently refused to sing the national anthem the next week.

@teleute

Actually the Madagascar national anthem is pretty bigot.

But the music is nice.

🇬🇧✝️😷 @teleute In 2020, every passenger arriving in Madagascar was told to stay locked at home for a short period of time to prevent Covid propagation. At the very beginning of the outbreak, PCR tests were not easily available.
One member of JW sect refused such restriction, and went spreading her gospel (and her Covid) in her community. For that, I won't blame those you qualify as "being mad". Abiding by the rules must start in school.

@dot dude, what does one member of the JW church refusing to go into quarantine has to do with young kids (yes, even if they are from the same church) refusing to sing a stupid and bigot anthem?

Aren’t they free to practice their religion as you are when you’re practicing yours?
Does their refusal to sing a song put you or anyone in danger??

I hope noone ever sing this song again! I hope no poor shoeless kid abides by your oppressive stupid rules ever!

@teleute forcing young kids to sing the national anthem is a stupid rule. Forcing someone to go into quarantine is also a stupid rule. Forbidding killing human being is a stupid rule, when you are a Hutu and the other human being is a Tutsi.

Every rule is stupid for someone. Refusal to sing a song is not my issue, refusing authority definitely is.

@teleute Rare Jehovah Witness W.
Like, they're literally a doomsday cult, but somehow manage to do cool things like that or not say the Pledge of Allegiance in the US back in the day.
@teleute It reminds that the early christians were persecuted by the Romans because they refused to pay taxes. It was a civil-political persecution, not a religious one. It's a psychological mechanism for cult-bonding. A cool tactic for an uncool reason. "We won't be controlled by the state, we'd rather be controlled by this cult!"
