If someone posts a pic of a bird can I draw it without permission? If someone did art of a picture of my cats I’d love it. I saw a cute bird photo and instantly thought I wanted to try it in pencils. The feeling of inspiration to draw anything is exciting in itself. It’s been so long. What’s the protocol in the age of having you all in my living room sharing your pictures but I don’t really know you or remember who posted what. 🥴anxiety.. never mind. I’ll just look outside.

@sgh I love it when artists use my photos as inspiration (as long as its not a blatant, photographic copy for profit, which isn't what you're asking about).

I know an artist who has used several of my photos as inspiration for her paintings and they're fantastic! And she sells the prints which I think is great, because they're paintings (not photographic copies).

I know everyone feels differently, but I think it's cool. Perhaps ask the photographer when you're inspired by their photo? 🤷‍♀️

@pnwres that’s so cool! I’d take it as a compliment too! You’re right, it has to be the artist’s representation of the photo, not an exact copy. Makes sense.
