Ukraine issues Banksy mural postage stamp

Stamp features British artist’s mural on a demolished wall in Borodianka near Kyiv, bombed at the start of the Russian invasion

@jeffjarvis I wonder how permission works for this? Is there a way to reach out to Banksy to ask if it’s okay to use this on a stamp, or since it’s now “public art” it’s free to use?
@davekrug
I don't know what the copyright laws in Ukraine are, but anyone can take a picture of public art.
@jeffjarvis Someone tell that to Anish Kapoor…

@davekrug @jeffjarvis This article provides some interesting context on why Banksy might not do anything about it:

“For a trademark to be valid, the holder must sell goods using the image.

“But the authority said he had filed [for the trademark] in order to avoid using copyright laws, which are separate and would have required the famously elusive Bristolian artist to reveal his true identity.”

It seems anonymity is more important to them than protecting copyright.
