Almost 50% Of Young Women Report Negative Healthcare Experiences, New Study Shows

A new report released this week from the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) starkly illustrates just how poorly many women feel they have been treated by their doctors.

Forbes
@amydiehl A close friend of mine died when her repeated visits to a doctor for classic symptoms of a blood clot were repeatedly dismissed as “anxiety” and “stress.” Women are routinely dismissed by health care providers and it has deadly consequences, even more so for Black and Latino women. #Women #BlackWomen #WomenAndHealthCare
@amydiehl Of the many doctors I've had this kind of trouble with, interestingly, one was a sports medicine doctor. I got a real jocks vs. geeks vibe from her. If I brought up anything besides "meat causes heart attacks" I would tell it to The Hand.
@amydiehl I don't think that is that statistical different. The problem is that doctors see themselves as better and more knowledgeable than their patients. We need to make doctors better at interpersonal communication and respect.
I'm not dismissing that women are treated worse, I just don't see it as the biggest takeaway from that data.
@Stefwill @amydiehl There is that doctors are Gods that should be looked up to and obeyed vibe that is felt by everyone but there is, in addition to it, the patronizing there, there little lady you don't know anything man to woman vibe that absolutely makes it far worse than the average doctor is infallible arrogant vibe that many male physicians give off as their way of distancing themselves from their patients as they are afraid of involvement and wanting to be viewed as experts.
@MaryMRedoutey @amydiehl this is the reason we only see female health professionals.
@amydiehl That's unacceptable, but also, geez, these doctors suck for both women and men! What other industry do we accept such poor performance? (Not including police, for obvious reasons.)
