The Abandoned Packard Motor Car Company: Detroit's Grandest Ruins

Reputed to the the largest abandoned site in North America, Packard has perhaps been hit harder by arson, scrappers, and vandals than any other abandoned site as well. By Matthew Christopher of Abandoned America.

@AbandonedAmerica Two camp-fire questions:

1) When you explore places like these, how often do you encounter people in them? Squatters, homeless, lone strangers, etc.?

2) Whatโ€™s the scariest/most dangerous situation youโ€™ve ever encountered while exploring abandoned buildings?

@brianstorms 1) Not very often, actually. People think it happens a lot but it's pretty rare. Other photographers are a different story though, I wouldn't say it's frequent but it definitely happens.

2) Oh, this makes me want to bring my creepy stuff thread over here from Twitter. I can think of a bunch of great examples from both. For the sake of just picking one though I'll go with this place as easily being in the top five most sketchy buildings I've been in https://www.abandonedamerica.us/revisiting-hudson-river-state-hospital

Revisiting the Abandoned Hudson River State Hospital: Hello Darkness, My Old Friend

Eight years after my first terrifying visit to this incredible abandoned asylum in Poughkeepsie, I had to return to Hudson River State Hospital. Time had not made it any safer.

@AbandonedAmerica Watch out, the Warner Brothers night be locked in that!
@ocdtrekkie That's funny, I never thought about that (and let's not forget the Warner sister, too) ๐Ÿ˜„
@AbandonedAmerica Yeah, "oh shoot, I didn't mention the Warner sister" hit me after posting, but ah well. Gotta leave something behind for people to correct me on. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@ocdtrekkie not correcting, just enjoying thinking about that show. Haven't seen it in ages ๐Ÿ˜Š
@AbandonedAmerica
Definitely movie worthy, as in The War of the Worlds, an alien tripod in the middle of Earth's destruction.
@AbandonedAmerica Been there, photographed that! I wonder if itโ€™s still standing?
@getrealjc hard to say. They're mid demo so if it is it won't be for long
