Why is U2 such a polarizing band?
@darinself 11 years of sublime magnificence (1980-1991) followed by decades of mediocrity & Bono's pretentiousness?
@mcopelov I get that people don't like Bono's eclecticism and that their post-Achtung Baby music has been more misses than hits, but I see a lot of people hating them.

@mcopelov I'm listening to Bono's book right now, and he makes a lot more sense to me than previously.

But I still think Bono is one of the best rock singers of the past 40 years and The Edge is on another planet.

@darinself Agreed. Though, of course, as a drummer, my predictable take is that Larry Mullen Jr. is the most important & talented member of the group, overshadowed by his flashier, celebrity front men. See also: Starr, Ringo; Watts, Charlie; Copeland, Stewart.

@mcopelov oh 100% there is somehow, a subtlety to his drumming that impresses me.

I think one of the greatest songs ever is With or Without You and its largely due to Larry's drumming and Adam's bass work.

@mcopelov @darinself man that clip brought back memories.

@mcopelov and speaking of Larry Mullen Jr this is one of my favorite parts of his performances with Sunday Bloody Sunday. He moves from providing rhythm to providing the emotional heart of the song
