When Martin Buchan, the United captain, was preparing to go up and receive the Cup, I said "isn't it appropriate that a man named Buchan should climb the 39 steps at Wembley to receive the Cup", which recalled John Buchan, the novelist who wrote The Thirty-nine Steps. A lot of people thought I'd scripted that but it was spontaneous.
