Gentle reminder folx — if you're going to a protest, especially one which will be busy and/or has the potential to "interest" the police, *don't post about it*, even here. 🙏

- Don't publicly say you're attending
- Don't take pictures and publicly post them
- Wear a mask

@theresnotime Hi Sammy. Are there any exceptions to this, or is it a universal recommendation?
@engagedpractx I'm sure there are exceptions (and I wrote this pretty narrowly with a few particular protests in mind..), but generally I'd err on the side of caution — you're often only ever doing the police a favour, especially with photos 😞
@theresnotime I'm just thinking about movements where peer modelling is a key mechanism for getting people to come along or care about the issue.
@theresnotime Honestly, beyond surveillance, there is an active pandemic going around, and its rather surprising to me to see anyone not wearing a mask to a *protest* during a *pandemic*

@donkeyblam @theresnotime It's a ready-made excuse, it's great.

I remember places trying to ban masks at protests in the past (one sure wonders why).

@theresnotime Don't bring your phone either. Geofencing and also fingerprint/face locks can be opened without a warrant.
@aismallard I think it heavily depends on jurisdiction but the thumb print thing is not 100% without a warrant iirc, it’s cutting hairs but it’s something to do with supplying a fingerprint being an active motion and ties into the 5th amendment, whereas your face is most of the time just kinda, visible and doesn’t require special permission to take a picture of
@theresnotime i you are MAGA then feel free to ignore this woke advice. Just saying
@theresnotime after all there's always someone in the crowd that's nice enough to do it for you.
