Office Hours: A national divorce?

Friends, Forgive me for quoting someone whose words and thoughts I usually find reprehensible but this time reflect the views of a growing portion of Americans — including many progressives. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted on Presidents’ Day that “We need a national divorce. We need to separate by red states and blue states ….”

Robert Reich
@rbreich of course she's demanding her pay be cut in half because she doesn't work for half the country, right?.....right?
@rbreich Your fine work has moved behind a paywall. I hope that is not permanent.
@rbreich wouldn’t that mean removal of all federal offices, military bases, and government assisatance programs in those states.?
@rbreich I've been wondering about building an alternative economy. We already have an underground economy. Here in Milwaukee, we have a lot of blight that could be rehabilitated and a need for affordable housing. The city wants owners to occupy houses but it is still unaffordable. I want to start an "Employee Owned" property company where don't have to pay the landlord. Our company makes Rent, affordable.
@rbreich The voters of her district should divorce her from Congress!
@rbreich I think this is a crazy idea befitting the person who first uttered it. There are no blue vs red states. People of all colors are everywhere.
@rbreich Perhaps separating Red and Blue states would be a great idea. 😜 As happened with East and West Germany (though for different reasons), the red states would gradually fall behind, demonstrating once and for all what a dreadful mess Republicans make of everything they touch. In the end, the red states would be begging to be re-admitted. In the mean time, blue states could move faster towards a prosperous future, unencumbered by GOP troublemaking. 😉
@rbreich in a perfect world, this concept of national divorce MIGHT even be feasible (it’s not) the real reason to bring about a Gilead superstate with the sole purpose of ‘excising’ ‘undesirables’ from the population at large. Folk like MTG will cheer for those baying for blood but unwilling to hold the knife herself
@rbreich Gossip. MTG cannot. And everybody needs to review the results of the last state secession effort
@rbreich Look, if OUR side had the courage of conviction, we would have invoked "14(3)" and denied MTG a seat in Congress, along with preventing the rest of her fellow "MAGAnistas" from doing so, timidity is OUR greatest tragic flaw.

@rbreich Michigan as a red state in that hastily sketched map?

No way.

Edited: actually you have Wisconsin and Michigan’s UP as blue like Minnesota when they’re actually more red while Michigan’s LP would definitely be blue.
