The threading UI in a lot of mastodon clients is really iffy. In many views, esp manual RTs, you don’t automatically see up-thread or down-thread posts, and it really flattens subsequent conversations.

Not sure there’s much to be done about it—I’m not a post-numbering person and that only works for single-party threads anyway—but I think it’s part of the reason reply interestingness degrades so quickly here.
