@quixoticgeek actually they could have made a little island sticking out into the parking spaces (which seems popular around here) - could even have two outlets on either side of it. Might need to make the spaces a bit smaller to accomodate it.

Something like this. Car infra should never steal space from active travel users. They could have built this into the parking space, maybe removing a space at the same time.
