@parkermolloy Ever since Rowling started punching down on trans people, I stopped watching the Harry Potter movies. It wasn’t really a deliberate decision. It’s just that, whenever I considered tuning into one, Rowling the person entered my head. Just for a moment, but long enough to scroll past the Harry Potter movies. I used to like cozying up on my couch at night and watching a Potter movie. Now it’s been years since I did. Probably never will again.

I'm in a similar position with the books.

The damage though is far deeper than fans turning away and engaging elsewhere.

The HP books were perhaps the last narrative that was so widespread in say under 45 year old Westerners that it could be described as common knowledge.

Now even that commonality has been fractured, shattered, revealed to have poison in its veins. Trusting an author enough to love characters will be less likely for many former HP fans. And in an already pathologically disconnected and isolating culture that is a sorry direction to be embedded.
