Did the NYT really publish an Opinion speculating that young girls today are more depressed than ever because of _phones_?

In a world where they lost the right to control their own reproductive healthcare? Where states are pondering making them report their periods? In a world debating genital inspections to play school sports? While banning books? Where they practice school shooting drills? With climate change? Where sexual assault isn’t disqualifying for public office?

Sure, it’s the phones.

@goosname I teach young girls and they aren’t thinking about any of the things you listed because of the phones. They are worried about what people say about them on the phones. They are trying to see what’s trending on the phones. They are being bullied on the phones.

I could tell them that the government is thinking of tracking their periods and they would say it’s gross and then go back to the phones to see who has to say what about whom.

It is the phones.

I'm clearly not a young woman and don't interact much with them. But you really don't think the 1 out of 3 women subject to abuse (and their friends and family) might suffer from some kind of anxiety or depression outside of their phones?

This isn’t what the opinion piece was about, nor is it what OP was talking about.

I’m sure the girls being sexually assaulted are anxious and depressed about that.

@BeccainColorado @goosname

the opinion piece wasn't about this because they want to blame phones instead of the environments where women must live (OP's point).

OP cited "Where sexual assault isn’t disqualifying for public office?" It's not because it's normal for 1 out of 3 women, giving them
plenty of reason to be anxious or depressed.

And you agree 1 out of 3 women are anxious and depressed NOT because of their phones yet dismiss environment because you want it to be phones?

@BeccainColorado @goosname

I'll be happy to drop this if
@goosname agrees it's not what they were talking about and it really is the phones. I thought they were incredulous that the NYT would blame phones when so many other things in the environment are cause for depression and anxiety.

What do you think they were talking about?

I seem to miss the point more often than I used to so I'll certainly defer to OP since it was their post.

@michaelboys @goosname

You’re not making any sense and I’m not having a bad faith argument with someone who can’t handle being wrong on the internet. We left Twitter for a reason.
