Britain isn’t being swamped by asylum seekers. But asylum seekers in small boats are swamped by the sea and drown. Instead of imagining a threat, imagine a dying child, a heartbroken parent, or a bereft sibling. Without empathy we’re nothing. Compassion shouldn’t be a crime.

@thewritertype Go to the coast. Imagine putting your children and loved ones in a dingy or small boat to cross the channel. I would be scared shitless. It gives a measure of how desperate these people are. Have we lost all empathy?

I am genuinely puzzled as to why they’d want to leave France (or any EU country) for England. Do we treat asylum seekers well? I didn’t think so.
