@stux You're not going to get sympathy from anybody in the US. I pay $800 a month out-of-pocket (a very good deal, compared to other states) and my prescriptions (all generic) just cost me $250. (Best price I could get with any plan).

@MagicLike @stux it’s not the healthcare system*, it’s the debt collection system. The bill wasn’t paid (maybe never sent or something), and so went to collections. Those guys are sharks.

* For adults in NL, the default basic insurance doesn’t cover cleanings, and has limited coverage of dental work. Many people pay a bit extra for insurance that covers more.

@stux als dit via een deurwaarder / incassobureau komt, zeker zeggen dat je niet mee ens bent met de *originele* factuur, en dat je in gesprek gaat met de tandarts. Als ze dat horen, kunnen ze feitelijk niets, want ze zijn geen bemiddelaars. Contact opnemen met een specialist, voor 1000+ euro is het de moeite waard.

This appears to be a letter where a court bailiff wants to seize your money ('dit beslag'). Which probably means you have been sentenced by a judge to pay an outstanding amount of money if this isn't a scam from some trickster.

@stux Another possibility might be that a debt collector has requested a judge to allow conservative seizing of your bank account (conservatoir beslag) and you will be subpoenaed in the near future.

@stux If you have been sentenced, you should have received a subpoena from a court bailiff. During the corona lockdowns, the servicing requirements of subpoenas were decreased (corona betekening). If you moved houses in the past two years but did not register correctly at the municipality, it might be that a court bailiff tried to service the subpoena at the wrong address.

@stux I think it's best to contact a lawyer ASAP, because your bank account might get blocked soon. You could try first contacting the Juridisch Loket today, to figure out what happened and what steps you can take.

@stux If you were sentenced by default (verstek) you've got a very short amount of time to object the judgment after you understood you were sentenced to pay. If you let the period pass, that judgment becomes final.

Ja, dit ziet eruit als een deurwaardersexploot (betalingsbevel). Je bent dan bij verstek veroordeeld (de rechter heeft aangenomen dat de dagvaarding juist is betekend, jij reageerde niet en de rechter heeft zonder jouw verweer summier de vordering beoordeeld). Of het is nep en iemand probeert je op te lichten.

Bel zsm het Juridisch Loket om te bespreken of je nog in verzet kunt. De termijn begint te lopen nadat je kennis hebt genomen van het vonnis. Art. 143 Rv.

@stux Als je inkomen te hoog ligt voor het Juridisch Loket, bel dan zsm een advocaat om na te gaan of je nog in verzet kunt. Een advocaat is niet per se verplicht voor de verzet procedure, maar wellicht wel handig.

Uiteraard goed een tarief afspreken, want je hebt er niks aan om de vordering afgewezen te zien worden, maar vervolgens dit bedrag aan een advocaat te moeten betalen.

@stux Here in the Great State of Texas we have a fukton of toll roads.

God-forbid you don't pay your toll. Or even worse - they have wrong address on file and you never get toll bills.

Result? A $5 toll charge bloats into a $3,500 fine, full of administrative/filing fees...

@stux Jawel, maar met klagen voordat je het oorspronkelijke bedrag betaald hebt wek je de indruk dat je niet *wil* betalen. Dat valt altijd verkeerd.
