Urban Hermit@kate the thing is, instances keep having meltdowns because it is a systemic thing the structure is prone too. I have seen 3 in 3 months. It is hard to build a following and connect with people. There are other ways I may be losing contact, like entire other servers being blocked by my Admin because the Admins disagree on the extent to which people can be controlled. Decentralization has drawbacks as well as pluses and thinking out loud about how they might improve may be useful.
@kate just to be clear, egomaniacs making bad decisions and causing drama is always bad, more so the more influence they have. But as nice as the user community of Mastodon is, we are finding that some of us traded one big megalomaniac for dozens of small ones. If the system drives Mastodon volunteers nutty overtime, it would be nice to stop that, not console ourselves in the fact that we can always run away.
