Alright. Let's get this morning started with a deep dive into the transphobia against trans men that Pamela Paul's defense of JK Rowling both contributes to and ignores.

Yes, I will keep beating this drum. Because Rowling's transphobia against trans men is some of the most explicitly stated transphobia she has engaged in, and I have quotes for days.

Pamela Paul Doesn’t Know What Transphobia Is — Assigned

The New York Times columnist includes trans men in a group she refers to as “biological women” while declaring J. K. Rowling free of transphobia.

@e_urq I don’t have time to read right now but yes the denial is so crazymaking.

@e_urq Defenders of bigots think a “bigot” is someone who is openly bigoted all the time, so if they use coded language or say things that aren’t bigoted then you don’t need to look at everything they’ve said because they pass the test.

I’ve had people defend Jordan Peterson by insisting he wasn’t saying what he literally said, word for word. But since they didn’t see those quotes, they assume it didn’t happen. And when I quote him, they say he meant something else.

@e_urq

"If we could once and for all remove the obscuring cloud that renders trans men invisible in the discussion about trans rights, Rowling’s transphobia would be laid bare to all for see."

(loud applause)

Trans men are so, so erased in so many of these discussions, it's horrible. Simply not mentioned as existing, even when the discussion is about their rights.

We need to be putting their existence front and centre so that this erasure cannot happen any more.

@e_urq yes! Thank you. I've been wanting to see more people talk about this.

I, as a non binary person, have experienced a similar patronising attitude. People tell me that I don't need to be non binary, I can be a tom boy (or have short hair or whatever) and still be a woman. I don't have to conform to traditional femininity.

Like, who knew! Why did I never think of that before? 🤔

@Zumbador @e_urq it's "amazing" how cis people seem to think we haven't spent even a moment thinking about our options re: gender
@e_urq this is completely unrelated to your article (which I’m currently reading, thank you) but I really love the animations on the text and images in your blog. Well done.
@e_urq . . . oooooh, boy howdy! That deep cultural ‘divine right of kings’ thingy sure is tough for (some of us) Anglophiles to give up, huh?
