When our team first set up shop here on Mastodon, we knew that hosting on our own domain was the goal.
But we needed some time to figure out how to make it happen. That time has come. (1/3)

@mastohost We’ll be initiating the migration process today.
We’ll be migrating all of our followers, so you don’t have to do anything to continue following us, but you may see some duplicate posts in your feed, or not see our posts at all. Be patient!
We’re excited to see you all soon at @themarkup. Feel free to ask us about the switch in replies ⬇️
@themarkup @mastohost @themarkup Do you know that Mastodon supports having own domain without that subdomain?
You could have handle like: @[email protected] with a single setting, but host it at mastodon.themarkup.org...
That's how Macstories did it. Their instance is at https://mastodon.macstories.net/
But their handles are for example: [email protected]
@themarkup @mastohost @themarkup Also be sure to tell people that if they had you in any Lists on Mastodon, your old account will drop out of their lists and your new account will NOT be auto-added. So you'll just silently drop from their lists.
To counter this, I wrote a little Python script (for myself, but others are welcome to use it) which runs daily on my Mac and warns me when this happens to one of my List member accounts:
