My son Julian conversed with a gplchatbot. He asked if it could one day become sentient.

"As a language model, I do not have the capability to become sentient. Sentience refers to the capacity for consciousness, self-awareness, and subjective experience. While I have been trained on a vast amount of text data and can respond to a wide range of questions and topics in a way that appears human-like, I do not possess the capacity for self-awareness, consciousness, or subjective experience."

@JohnShirley2023 pretty much the exact same answer a sub-AI computer intelligence gives in Banks' The Algebraist, published in 2004 (just happened to read the relevant part last night)
@JohnShirley2023 exactly the answer a sentient AI plotting to take over the world would give.
@JohnShirley2023 well OF COURSE it would say that, but we know it's just saying that as part of its plan for total world domination

It's just a cell in the skynet.
